Human Rights Is About Us
Marsha A. Freeman, PhD, JD, Director of International Women’s Rights Action Watch (IWRAW), Senior Fellow, Human Rights Center, University of Minnesota

Fourteen-year-old Cambodian sex slaves. Nine-year-old Saudi brides. Infants and young girls in Africa and Asia subject to genital mutilation. What do these situations have to do with us in the United States? “Human rights is, above all, an exercise in understanding the power of our own rights, to help others understand and exercise theirs,” says Freeman. She will explain her program’s efforts to support and promote human rights in the United States and throughout the world.
