A Touch of Sweden
Tuesday, June 10, 2014
Bus departs at 9:00 a.m.
Valkommen! Our day begins at Gammelgarden Museum in Scandia, Minnesota. Gammelgarden means Old Farm in Swedish. Here visitors step back in history and experience the lives of early Swedish immigrants. Our guide will present Swedish history in the Valkommen Hus, take us on a tour of five historic buildings, and stop in the Butik Gift Shop. Lunch will be a Swedish Smorgasbord served by the women of Elim Lutheran Church.
The Franconia Sculpture Park is our next stop. We will have a 60-minute guided tour through the 20-acre sculpture exhibition. A visit to the outdoor studio will show us works-in-progress by Franconia’s artists-in-residence.
Continuing down the Moberg Trail, we will stop at Eichtens Cheese and Bison store. Shoppers will love Granma’s Barn next door!
The last stop in Chisago City is WineHaven. WineHaven is a family-owned winery that has won more than 200 awards for wine excellence. Enjoy tasting a few of their fine wines and perhaps a bit of their world-famous Stinger Honeywine (Mead).
Please join us for this touch of Sweden!
Reservations begin April 14 at the Gale or mail a check to Marlene Baldwin (make checks to AAUW Minneapolis).
