Plantation mistress Amanda Satterfield takes a newborn slave child as her own and names her Granada. Disturbed by his wife’s deteriorating mental health, Master Satterfield purchases Polly Shine, a slave woman known as a healer, who immediately senses a spark of healing in Granada. Soon, a domestic battle of wills begins, leading to a tragedy that weaves together three generations of strong southern women.

Baby boomers are living longer than their 20th century counterparts. Ehlinger will discuss what can be or has been done to encourage Minnesotans to live longer, healthier lives as well as some of the barriers to that goal. We may learn how that will affect overall health costs. -Mary Beaumont
