Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly Discussion Leader: Mary Ellen Nielsen

Before the computer became an inanimate object or Sputnik changed the course of history, before Brown vs. Board of Education or Martin Luther King’s I Have a Dream speech, a group of black women served as human computers at the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory in Hampton, Virginia. These woman mathematicians helped America gain dominance in aeronautics, space research, and computer technology. Come join in a lively discussion of the fascinating hidden story of these remarkable women.

Issues in Policing for Women and Human Trafficking

Speaker: Melissa Chiodo, Commander, Minneapolis Police Department

With 21 years of service in the Minneapolis Police Department, Chiodo is now in charge of the Trafficking, Domestic Assault, and Sexual Assault units. She will speak to us about safety for women, issues in policing women, and efforts against human trafficking.
