Speaker: Eric “Pogi” Sumangil, Playwright, Actor
Through the words of Sumangil, we’ll attend the annual
Valentine’s Ball and Presentation of Debutantes and Escorts which celebrates the heritage of Minnesota’s Filipino-American community. This new coming-of-age play will have its world premiere at the Minnesota History Theater on March 21. Sumangil will tell us how he added “playwright” to his other skills.

Speaker: Ann Masten, PhD, Regents Professor, Child Psychology, University of Minnesota
Internationally known as an expert on resilience in human development, Masten’s research focused on school success in homeless and other disadvantaged mobile children. It addresses how children manage to thrive in spite of adverse conditions. Her book, Ordinary Magic: Resilience in Development, was published in August, 2014.

HCMC serves our entire region, whether a bridge collapses nearby or a diver in Lake Superior needs a hyperbaric chamber. HCMC also has separate clinics, including the new one in the Whittier neighborhood. We will hear from Dr. Pryor about the ways HCMC helps our community through innovative health care.
