Media is undergoing a revolution not seen since Guttenberg’s invention of movable type. Today, Americans have more media choices than at any other time. Yet, all of these choices have brought profound change to the media industry, and all aspects of the business of media are being challenged. In this presentation we will look at the current state of media, the changes that are happening and coming, and how it impacts organizations such as MPR.

Effects of Incarceration on Children of Prison Inmates: Addressing the Problem Through Research and Intervention

Speaker: Rebecca Shlafer Nealy, PhD, Developmental Child Psychologist and Assistant Professor, University of Minnesota Medical School, Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine

It is estimated that more than 2.7 million children have a parent behind bars. Dr. Shlafer’s presentation will address the consequences of mass incarceration for United States children and families. She will highlight the research she is conducting using new educational resources, design by Sesame Street, to support young children with incarcerated parents.

My Experiences as an Educator: Goals as a Teacher Ambassador

Speaker: Thomas Rademacher, 2014 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, Fine Arts Interdisciplinary Resources (FAIR) School, Minneapolis

Rademacher has been a high school English teacher at FAIR School for eight years and will speak about his experiences and those of teachers he knows. This year as teacher ambassador will offer him the opportunity to push for open, respectful dialogue about the challenges facing schools and to share the stories of teachers and districts who are successfully meeting those challenges.
