An Invitation to the Dance

Speaker:  Christine Tschida, Artistic Director, Northrop Dance Series

Tschida will explain how Northrop became one of the foremost presenters of international ballet and large scale contemporary dance both in the Twin Cities and our region. An overview of the Series’ evolution will include an inside look at the curatorial process of season planning and the educational and community engagement work the Northrop Dance Series also undertakes. Using tantalizing video clips. Tschida will whet your appetitie for the performances coming this spring and perhaps a hint about the season to come!

New Leads on Maintaining a Healthy Brain:
Insights from the Minnesota Women’s Brain Resilience Initiative

Speaker:  Lisa M. James, PhD. Kunin Professor in Women’s Healthy Brain Aging,
University of Minnesota

James will discuss research on healthy brain aging, highlighting her recent findings from Minnesota Women’s Brain Resilience Initiative that certain immunity genes prevent brain decline with age.  She will describe the implications of her work in terms of factors that contribute to brain decline and will discuss encouraging avenues for keeping our brains healthy.

The Future of Farming

Speakers:  Susan Barton and Gary Pike,
Co-Ceos and Owners, Urbanize Farm

Growing food locally year round is a sustainable way to bring proper nutrition to people on a daily basis. Barton and her husband, Gary Pike, grow herbs and basil hydroponically to provide healthy, local, fresh and sustainably-grown produce to the Twin Cities. The benefits for the consumer as well as the environment will be discussed.
