5:15 LITERATURE – BOOK DISCUSSION

Hero of the Empire by Candice Millard Discussion Leader: Beth Montgomery

Convinced of his destiny to become prime minister of England, Winston Churchill believed he needed to do something spectacular on the battlefield to accomplish his goal. In spite of putting himself in extreme danger, fame eluded him. After arriving in South Africa in 1899 to cover the brutal war with the Boer rebels, he was taken prisoner. With a cast of historical characters, he pulled off a daring escape and accomplished what he had set out to do, profoundly affecting twentieth-century world history.
