Sustainable Plastics
Speaker: Jane Wissinger, Professor, Organic Lab Director, University of Minnesota
Today’s fossil-fuel based plastics permeate every aspect of our lives. Unfortunately, their durability has resulted in accumulation in the environment. Studies show microplastics present in beer, salt, and fish. To the rescue are new bioplastics made from plants. These degrade into harmless materials. Sustainable polymers will assure a healthy planet for humans and the earth.
10:45 – 11:45 WOMEN SPEAK Presidents’ Hall
Speaker: Mikki Morrissette, Owner and Editor of the Minnesota Women’s Press
Storytelling in the #Me Too Era
Morrissette will speak about the importance of our voices; they are as important as our votes. She will talk about why stories influence and inspire–even more than opinions and information. She’ll also explore why our brains don’t tell us the truth, how stories shift over time, and why being “right” is irrelevant. Our speaker will suggest a new story we might want to start telling.

Holstine will relate past experiences that have contributed to her belief that every kid matters. She uses the important question “What is best for kids?” to guide her practice, to authentically connect to her students, and to help her improve every day.
