Got to Be Something Here: The Rise of the Minneapolis Sound
Speaker: Andrea Swensson, Author, Music Journalist, and Radio Host, for Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current
Got to Be Something Here author, Swensson, traces the rise of a distinctive sound from 1958, the year of Prince’s birth, through two generations of political upheaval, rebellion, and artistic passion. Funk and soul music become the lens through which she explores three decades of Minneapolis and St. Paul history through the neighborhoods, venues, and the lives and times that produced the Minneapolis Sound.
