Founders Room The Art Forger by Barbara Shapiro

Boston painter, Claire Roth, has survived financially by painting reproductions. Aiden Markel, an influential gallery owner, offers Claire a show of her own works if she will forge a copy of a Degas. This painting, however, has been stolen in the 1990 heist from the Isabella Steward Museum. She reluctantly agrees, which sets her on quite an adventure. A good summer read, this mystery also provides an education in art history and the skills needed to make a decent art copy.

Natural Connections: Understanding Our Relationship with Animals

Speaker: Meg Mertaugh, Lead Nature-Based Therapeutics Practitioner Specializing in Animal Interactions, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, University of Minnesota

Have you ever felt the healing bond between you and an animal? If so, then you are one of many who recognize how the human/animal bond is therapeutic. A growing number of researchers and human service professionals believe that many issues facing people today–depression, anxiety, stress–are due, in part, to our separation from nature, including animals. Learn how animals are being brought into the lives of the frail elderly and people with Parkinson’s disease and eating disorders.
