Building a Better World through Young Minnesotan Women

Speaker: Saanii Hernandez, Vice President, Women’s Foundation of Minnesota, where she co-leads the newly-launched Young Women’s Initiative of Minnesota

The Women’s Foundation of Minnesota (WFM) made history when it launched the Minnesota Girls Are Not for Sale campaign in 2010. It convened over 100 leaders from all over Minnesota and created a strategic, multi-sector blueprint to combat child sex trafficking. WFM still continues this work. Today, we will learn about the Young Women’s Initiative of Minnesota, a statewide public-private partnership between WFM and the Governor’s Office of the State of Minnesota, which began late October, 2016.

Sleep and the Brain

Speaker: Michael Howell, MD, Associate Professor, Department of Neurology, University of Minnesota

Howell is a neurologist who specializes in sleep disorders. He is program director of the Clinical Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Hennepin County Medical Center.
His clinical interests include sleepwalking and related disorders such as REM Sleep Behavior Disorder, Sleep Related Eating Disorder, sleep seizures, and other violent sleep behaviors.

Bipolar Disorder: What It Is and What It Isn’t

Speaker: Todd Mulliken, MS, LPCC, Family Counselor, Mulliken Counseling Center

Bipolar disorder is a lifelong, chronic condition that affects two to three million Americans. Mulliken will attempt to clarify what this complex and often misunderstood disorder really is and what it isn’t. He will discuss effective evidence-based treatment modalities, as well as identify how friends and family can best support a loved one struggling with this disorder.
