Caviani is a well-known jazz pianist who has spent her life honing the skill of improvisation. She will discuss the art of improvisation and invite AAUW guests to participate in games that will hone their own improvisational skills. Come prepared to jam! -Karen Gray

TECH SAVVY: The Best Buy Teen Tech Center: Our First Year

Speaker: Bernie Farrell, Senior Librarian for Youth Services, Minneapolis Central Library

The Best Buy Teen Tech Center at the Minneapolis Central Library provides a creative and safe out-of-school learning environment where young people work with adult staff and mentors to explore their own ideas, develop skills, and build confidence in themselves through the use of technology. This informal learning environment is designed to empower youth from all backgrounds to become more capable, creative, and confident learners. The Teen Tech Center takes its learning model from that developed by the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network. Farrell will share highlights of the first year of the Teen Tech Center and her experience advocating for youth in our community. -Sharon Walbran

WOMEN ROCK: The University of St. Thomas: Moving Forward

Speaker: Dr. Julie Sullivan, President, University of St. Thomas

In July, 2013, Sullivan became the first woman and non-clergy member to serve as president of the University of St. Thomas. Moving forward, Sullivan hopes to make St. Thomas as affordable as possible while increasing access. Hear about Sullivan’s plans for the university, as well as her life’s journey leading her to this position. -Barbe Moe
