Justice: The Justice Cascade: How Human Rights Prosecutions are Changing World Politics

Speaker: Kathryn Sikkink, Regents Professor and McKnight Presidential Chair in Political Science, University of Minnesota

Dr. Sikkink will explore the emerging worldwide trend to hold former state officials criminally accountable for past human rights violations. These human rights prosecutions are happening at the domestic and international level. She will discuss her new research on the effectiveness of such prosecutions in improving in human rights practices around the world. -Linda Rebane

Speaker: Justice Paul H. Anderson, Associate Justice, Minnesota Supreme Court, 1974-2013

Our speaker’s 19 years as a member of Minnesota’s Supreme Court placed him in a central role, forming opinions that often gained national attention. Newly retired, Justice Anderson will talk about these Minnesota decisions as well as some made by the United States Supreme Court. -Geri Burns
