The exodus from the crisis in which modern Greece, along with the rest of the world, finds itself may very well come by way of the ageless quality of certain classical values and ideas. It was precisely at huge critical moments that such values did their magic and are likely, if properly invoked, to oblige again. The purpose of this presentation is toidentify a few key ideas of endurance and relevance for our times.

Icons: A Connection through Time and Space
Deb Korluka, Artist specializing in Byzantine Iconography
The creation of each icon is a spiritual journey steeped in tradition and culture. The style of writing (painting) icons remains timeless and is intended to provide a window to another world. Korluka will give us a look at the origins and history of icons and describe some of her works. She has studied with master iconographers in the United States, Ukraine, and Russia and has been commissioned to produce formal icons for liturgical use. Deb has worked as a professional iconographer for 15 years and an artist for 25 years.

What happens when an Irish gal from St. Paul marries a Greek-Cypriot immigrant? They open a Greek restaurant! Carol and Gus will tell their story, including Gus’ immigration experience, development of their restaurants, and the tours they lead to Greece. They will also share folklore, Greek Pride, and social implications of being Greek.
